Bodywork-Pilates is a small, independent specialist Pilates Centre. With a maximum membership of 100 (although non-members are very welcome), we aim to ensure that quality of instruction is never compromised and classes are no bigger than 10-12 people. Classes are graded from absolute beginner to intermediate/advanced, offering appropriate, effective and safe exercise for all ages, abilities and fitness levels. Bodywork-Pilates has a beautifully presented matwork studio as well as the only fully equipped Pilates apparutus studio in the area.
The studio is equipped with Pilates Reformer, which works with variable spring tension as well as body weight and gravity to provide a challenging and stimulating session as well as Pilates Springboard, a wall unit to provide reistance and unilateral workload, spine correctors and Wundachair. There is also a full range of assorted small equipment for use in matwork sessions and treadmill, spin cycle and rower to provide your most balanced workout that will challenge and maintain interest. Known for its rehabilitation properties, Pilates can aid recovery for back pain sufferers, accident victims and sport injuries. It promotes good posture, which is crucial to counteract common postural problems caused by long hours driving or extended periods working at a computer. Pilates will also improve joint mobility and flexibility, beneficial for young and old alike.
We would always advise, however, that you check with your medical practitioner if you have any existing health issues or are unsure as to whether you should embark upon a new exercise regimen.

“I first met Helen in January 2008 having read an article about the benefits of resistance Pilates for back pain in The Times. At that time I had been diagnosed with a collapsed disc in my lower back which, over a period of months, had left me in a sorry state. I could barely walk, needed help to dress, could not stand for more than a few minutes and could only get through the day and night with strong painkillers. I had also been ‘written off’ by the medical profession. Helen immediately recognised problems with my posture, the rigidity of my spine and generalised weakness in all my muscles due to months of inactivity. Over the last 18 months she has worked with me, cajoled and inspired me to continually improve my flexibility, strength and balance. No two sessions are the same and she seems to have an infinite variety of exercises for me to perform. Apart of all this she has become my mentor and friend and I look forward to our sessions. She pushes me harder than I would ever push myself. The back pain will never be cured but is 80% less than it was and I am stronger and fitter than ever. I have started to play golf again and can enjoy some hill walking and sailing again.” L. Underhill
